A Navenby we use the Jigsaw scheme to deliver high quality PSHE lessons. The year is split into six areas:
Jigsaw is sequential, the six puzzles (units) starting with 'Being Me in My World' (BM) at the beginning of the school year and working through to the end of the year:
BM (Being Me in My World)
'Who am I and how do I fit?'
CD (Celebrating Difference)
Respect for similarity and difference. Anti-bullying and being unique
DG (Dreams and Goals)
Aspirations, how to achieve goals and understanding the emotions that go with this
HM (Healthy Me)
Being and keeping safe and healthy
RL (Relationships)
Building positive, healthy relationships
CM (Changing Me)
Coping positively with change
The Changing Me Puzzle encompasses two to three lessons per year group, aimed at helping children grasp the changes brought about by puberty and the basics of human reproduction. It is essential to approach this topic with a strong focus on safeguarding. Consequently, the younger year groups will not directly engage with these subjects; instead, they will be introduced to appropriate terminology for body parts and establish foundational knowledge for future discussions. In Years 5 and 6, lessons delve more deeply into puberty and human reproduction, which is linked to the statutory Science curriculum. We trust you will recognize the significance of this educational endeavour and agree that it is crucial to be delivered in an age-appropriate manner. The Jigsaw Programme provides a reliable framework for us to address these important topics effectively.
